It's those times that I can't help but pick him up to give him a hug and play for a little bit, but if I set him down on the ground after that... oh no... Canon does not like that. Even if I'm still standing next to him, he'll bawl his eyes out. It's kind of frustrating. If I'm carrying him around in the Bjorn to go run an errand, I'll take him out and put him in his crib so that I can take the thing off. As soon as I lay him down, he lets out a long cry. (Sheesh! I only need you to be down for a moment...hold your horses!) He does the same thing if Mark is playing with him and sets him down... even if I'm still in the room. I guess he just doesn't like to see our backs.
I thought that he was starting to get separation anxiety, but... seriously?... crying even when I'm still right there next to him?
Any advice from you veteran moms? Do I have to live like this?

I would just let them cry. They're smart and will eventually realize it's just a moment here and there, or that there are moments when Mommy simply can't give them her full attention, but that she will play again when she can. Sammy screams when I put him down. About three wails, usually. Then he plays quietly.
