A Little More Randomness

I just posted several cute shots of Canon from our trip to Ohio on the family blog.  So you can check them out here.

I just wanted to post a couple things I thought were cute since we returned from Ohio.

I was working in the kitchen and heard Canon making some frustrated noises.  When I looked, this is what I saw... so I had to get the camera.  Poor guy!

When Canon gets really loud in the car, whether he's mad or sad... or even sometimes glad... when I feel like I want him to change his tune to one a little softer, this is what I do.  Usually it seems to work, even if it's just temporarily.  This time it wasn't perfect because he kept grabbing my hand, but you get the idea.

This past Monday there was a Kirby Vacuum salesman that came to our home.  He was a really nice guy, and we were very impressed with the vacuum.  However, we just can't afford to spend over $1000 on a vacuum cleaner, no matter how many awesome functions it has.  One of its functions was a blower, and he blew up a balloon for Canon.  It's been one of his favorite toys ever since.

Just a Couple of Videos

This post is for the grandmas (and anyone else) who might need a little Canon fix.  Enjoy!
This first video may seem like I was being really mean to him, but I really wasn't.  I was talking with my brother Dan the other day and he mentioned that all the pictures and videos are of Canon being so happy.  Well Dan, this one's for you.  Here is proof that Canon does come with moods other than just happy! (Note: At the beginning you might be able to tell that his mood goes from upset to playful as he sees me following him down the hall, but then he goes back to upset when I won't let him play with the books.  Then, he's somewhat  playful again as we walk to the living room, but as soon as I stop walking with him, he gets really upset.  At the very end you can see that his cries are less intense as he finds something on the carpet to distract himself with.)

However, you might be able to tell from this next video just why I haven't been able to get many shots of him crying.  Once I get the camera out, he stops and wants to come investigate the shiny gadget!

In this video I was trying to give you an idea of how Canon plays with his blocks.  In actuality, he just knocks down anything he sees you building.  Seriously, if there are two blocks on top of each other, he will try his hardest to come knock them over.  Unfortunately, this video doesn't really do "Canon the Destroyer" much justice! :)

And this next video is of his bath tonight.  I was cleaning up in the kitchen after dinner while Mark gave Canon his bath.  I heard that he was having so much fun splashing that I just had to pull out the camera.

10 Months Old

I can hardly believe that Canon is 10 months old today.  Well, that's not totally true, but I do have a hard time thinking that in just 2 months he will be 1 year old!!  He's getting so big and smart.  There have been so many times when as I sat and watched him, I could tell that he was discovering something new.  These past ten months as a mother have been so fun for me.  I don't think it's possible to love this little boy any more.

Here are a few little things that make Canon special:

• No matter where it is, he HAS to be touching something with his feet (kicking my legs while I feed him, stepping on whatever is in his path that he doesn't want to bend over to pick up but he still wants to play with briefly, pushing against the arms of the glider as I rock him to sleep, etc.)
• He thinks the broom is the coolest "toy" that mommy uses and refuses to stay away while mom has it out... crawling through the dust pile if I'm not quick enough to stop him.
• Walking while holding onto your hands is his absolute favorite thing to do.  This afternoon he took a pretty bad fall, getting a nasty bump on his head, but within 15 seconds he was grabbing for my fingers and ready for a walk around the house, giggling once he got going.  If you're playing with him, you can never go wrong with taking a little walk... that is... if you go the speed he wants to go.
• He's developed a cute little laugh that reminds me of his previous "Woody Woodpecker" laugh that he used to do.  I haven't been able to get a good sample recorded on video yet, but when I do it will get posted.  It still cracks us up when we hear it.
• It's very rare that Canon gets cranky, although it's not unheard of.  He is usually a very happy and playful boy, even when it's time for a nap.  Getting him to take a nap at Church is tricky, but if I can get in the mother's lounge for a good 20 minutes ALONE, usually I can get him to sleep.  Staying asleep is difficult, but he usually goes right down to bed after church, and he's usually in wonderful moods all day long!!
• Above all, he is still a Daddy's Boy!  When Mark comes home after being away, Canon gets so excited.  One night at bedtime Mark was holding him while I was making a bottle, and when I tried to take him from Mark, Canon refused to come to me.  He repeatedly clung to Mark's shoulder.  Once I got him into my arms we tested to see if he'd refuse to go to Mark too.  Nope!  He gladly went into Mark's arms, and didn't want to stay with me.  I know it's probably because it was bedtime and he knew that I was going to be making him go to bed, but it was still cute.  I know that Canon loves me, but it's so adorable to watch him interact with his daddy!

I love you, Canon!

BBQs and Playgrounds

Since we moved to Springfield we bought a BBQ grill... and Canon LOVES it.  When Mark was lighting the coals Canon was giddy and yelling with excitement.  What can I say?  Canon is his father's son!

Monday was actually a Fun-day!! Here's the evidence of a great night's sleep!

Then we enjoyed a little bit of time playing in the living room... Daddy was watching TV and Canon was...well... being adorable.

Then I told Mark that I wanted to take Canon to a park for the first time.  While I was getting the diaper bag ready, Mark was getting Canon ready!

 Up until this point I figured that Canon was still just a bit too young for parks because he can't even walk yet.  Boy, was I wrong!!

He LOVED the swing...

I guess I shouldn't have been, but I was surprised at how much he loved the slides!

Now every time I prep him for a slide he tries to go down before I can let him go.

Our Little Athlete

It's so fun to see Mark with Canon... teaching him all about sports.  This was after his bath but just before bedtime.

My favorite part is how Canon went head-to-head against the shoes and still came out with the goal!  :)  The little celebratory dance was fun too!
